Dell laptop

Hi there

Anybody offer some Dell advice?

I ordered a Dell laptop just over a month ago. It worked for about a week and then started failing. Occasionally it would boot up other times there would be no response. I've had 3 engineer visits in the past 3 weeks to replace numerous components but to no avail.

Spoke to Dell tech support today and they offered a replacement. To be honest I'm just fed up with them and would prefer my money back. If I stick to my guns are they likely to offer my money back? So far they've apologised and offered me a replacement and a free USB hard drive. It's a decent offer but my faith in Dell isn't what it was and I don't want to be paying a fortune in repair costs once my warranty has run out just bacause they're offering me a USB hard drive. I've said I'll take a replacement if they offer a free 3 year warranty but the tech guy said they couldn't offer that.

So...what should I do? Stick to me guns and demand a refund? Wait till they offer something more?

Any thoughts?

Cheers

They aren't obliged to give you a refund by law. A replacement seems a fair offer, you might be able to blag a bit more out of them, difficult to say.

They sell millions of Pc's, there's bound to be a few lemons amongst that lot, you have just been unlucky by the sounds of it. If it is a hard disk problem, you could find the same HD in any laptop.

A few people on here have had problems out of warranty, sometimes self inflicted, and Dell have fixed them for free without hassle, not many companies do that. Something to bear in mind if you want to replace it with something from the high street.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

I had the same problem with a desktop I brought from Dell a few years back. After changing a few parts they offered me a replacement with a upgraded component.

I took them up on the offer and the replacement Desktop worked flawlessly.

As Albertross says, they produce millions and there is bound to be a percentage that fail. Happens to every company.
