Hmmm NPower - fraudulent selling

We're in an interesting position....we went to the Ideal Home Exhibition (free tickets!) and spoke to NPower whilst we were there.
We went through some figures and were quite interested but we weren't sure. The chap we were speaking to then said "well you know you can't sign up today anyway" and went on to say that there was a 14 day cooling off period, they would then send us details and we would have to respond before anything happened.
Sooo...we signed up, a number of weeks have gone by and we've had nothing until today when we get a "sorry you're leaving" letter from our existing provider.
DH (account holder) has just spoken to NPower who say "no you signed the contract"....so the chappy at the IDH absolutely lied to us with no prompting. There was no doubt about what he told us, he was very clear - DH isn't stupid and I'm a lawyer so they can argue the toss about our word if they like.
DH has raised a complaint and we'll follow it up tomorrow.
I'm guessing this was his standard sales technique? It struck me at the time that I was slightly surprised that this was a Consumer Credit Act contract but assumed it was to do with the payment plan aspect.
Any suggestions on the best way to deal with the complaint?

Sounds like standard Npower tactics to me, sadly you must have walked right past the Energyhelpline stand at the IHS as they were quite close to the Npower stand.
I was there too and actually overheard a couple of the Npower in the cafe about the lies they have used to get people to switch, things like "The Fixed price tariff is a show only offer" and that sort of rubbish.
First port of call should be Energywatch and report them and get them to cancel the transfer (they WONT have switched you onto their cheapest tariff SOL10)
The new Energy ombudsman service will also be worth a try, not dealt with them myself but they also had a stand at the IHSMissing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!
