Moving my sky box problems

Basically, im changing to virgin tomorrow and my sky will become freesat in a few weeks time. I was going to move the sky box to my bedroom, I ended up getting the wrong connectors for the extension wire (any advice on the kind of wire, connectors I need to get and where from).

When I figured out I couldnt move it yet I plugged it back in and now it is saying that it isnt receiving a signal. Does anyone know why? The only reason I can think of is because my telephone line isnt connected (I didnt have a landline when it was installed and it was a month by month student package so it wasnt a necessity) could this be the reason? If so, is there anything I can do about it? I tried doing a system health check but its asking for a pin number and ive tried 1234 but that doesnt work and my other guess doesnt work either.

Its possible that you have shorted out or open circuited the downlead from your dish.
Unscrew the F connector from the back of the Sky box and examine it for stray strands of copper braid. make sure that the connector is firmly screwed onto the end of the cable before inserting it back into the socket on the box, the centre conductor should be pushed fully home before tighening up the connector.
Then go into the services menu and check the signal level.

PS you can get satellite extension cables made up at Argos, or places like Wickes.
You need F connectors and female-female barrel connectors to join them up.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
