Hi my husband claims DLA and we are desperately trying to overpay our mortgage to improve our finances - if the day comes my husband is unable to work.Is this a good idea?Would we be entitled to more help if we had a mortgage???

nope , infact you would be struggling if you were relying on benefits to pay your mortgage, as if you went on income support you have to wait 39 weeks unless there are certain circumstances.
it is wise to carry on overpaying rather than putting into savings as they too can affect benefit over certain amounts

And after having waited 39 weeks they would still only pay the interest on the mortgage, not the capital.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
