Congestion charges in Leicester....

Its just been announced that Leicester will be having a congestion charge if you drive into Leicester at peak times.

I live within 20 mins walk from Leicester...does anyone know how it will work? I obvously can't avoid this area so will i have to pay for every journey out in my car during these peak times even though i hardly go into Leicester city centre?

Does this mean we won't have visitors between peak times which i believe is between 4pm-7pm....does this mean if you have children and they go to play after school with friends that also live in the congestion zone, they have to walk home before 7pm to avoid the charge even though their friend could live a few miles away, but still in the zone?

I'm not trying to be negative, i just wondered if anyone knows how it works if you live in the congestion zone ie how does it work in London?

Will it also affect my house price as people may not want to live here?

I think Kippers is worrying at costs of friend and family visiting her - places have people not just attractions.

There's nothing on Leicester City Council's website about this and nothing on their consultations page. Why not speak to your local councillor or the City Council - I'm in contact with them on a regular basis through work and they always seem open and friendly.
Nothing wrong with Leicester...great market, cosmopolitan, good rugby team, good universities...........and no I don't live there.

So people should only post questions about things that interest/affect you??
If you don't care or have anything to say that would help leave the post alone.

I would wait until they post a map of various things and more concrete plans. Smells like a "let's jump on the revenue bandwagon" kind of thing, without any real thought.

Kippers, best stay away from here, for the 'helpful' people here, you need to remember that something that you may perceive to be "funny" won't necessarily seem so to your target audience.

There's a paragraph or 2 on Forum Etiquette in the right hand box of all pages. In case you can't find it I quote:

If you live within the zone then you will probably be exempt - but visitors won't be if they live outside.
It'll probably be a daily charge not per trip - and if like London not at weekends.

That's a bit harsh stapeley - if it doesn't interest you then just don't get involved.

As for the congestion charge bit, sorry I live in Wolverhampton (which, stapeley, is probably worse than Leicester in your view, so I'll thank you to keep your opinion to yoursepf on this one), so no congestion charges here (yet!).
