Paypal got me a bank charge!

Options
Hi all,

Wondering if someone could help??

I have a card and bank account set up on Paypal, I made a purchase totalling £13.49 on the 16th and got a letter from Halifax on the 21st to say I had not had sufficient funds and would now be charged £35 on the 6th May.

I am really annoyed as I have over £6000 sat in another 2 accounts with them, for some reason paypal over rode the card which is for priority use and funded straight from the bank account, I had not transferred any funds into it recently and had 11.00 there.

BOth of these accounts are debit accounts, and usually you get an error message saying insufficient funds if the money is not there, why did it let paypal take the money???

Thanks

Jo

  • Same happened to me.

Barclays refunded the money without me asking, but Paypal always goes to your account to pay , unless on every transaction you click on the tiny blue writing that says more funding options ( or something ike that)

you then select CC, you get a warning to say are you sure.

as far as i can see Paypal always takes from the account.

i dont have my paypal account linked to my main current account, only to a second account that is basically for ebay/paypal as i dont trust their security.

The bank account is the default option on paypal and the source of funding is always shown before you hit confirm to pay. To opt to use credit card funding you need to actually choose that option. Get in the habit of double checking your paypal payment before you confirm you are happy to pay.

The reason you got charged was because paypal set up the bank transaction as a direct debit i think! Therefore the direct debit was returned thus the reason for the charge.
