Confused about deposit protection schemes

Hello all,
am very confused about deposit protection schemes and wondered if someone could help, we are trying to get our deposit back when someone mentioned to me about this, I have to be honest it wasent something I had heard of before
We found out that our deposit should have been held with mydeposits (rung a different branch of the letting agents who told me they all went with them) but on the webpage it states that we should have signed a certificate and got a copy
The only items we signed were the contract when we moved in and I think we may have signed something to comfirm we wanted the property, on the site it says it is requested within 14 days so im guessing it wouldnt be something we did on the day we moved in
Can anyone help please ( I did try searching by my ie keeps crashing when i do for some reason)

You'll find the information you need here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TenancyDeposit/index.htm
If your tenancy began on or after April 6 2007 then your LL should have registered your deposit within 14 days of receiving it and s/he should also have given you "prescribed information" about where the deposit was held.0
