Would this work in Spain?

Have been watching this scene play out on the news with great interest and good luck Martin on a partial victory. What I would like to know is - sorry I posted this somewhere but cannot find it - do you think this would work in Spain as we are part of EU. I am constantly being charged €30 extra on a €50 monthly credit card charge because I am one day to late due to my payment going in. This means that each month i am paying back €90 and as I am a pensioner this is a lot of money. Also the bank stopped my Visa card because they said I had missed two months payments when I was away on holiday. My explanation was that being as I had put €700 back onto my credit card in theory I was really now five months ahead. When I tried to go to my Visa statement online I found they had removed it and now I cannot prove that I put the 700 back. I did send the bank and gave them a letter at the bank itself giving the dates of when I paid in the 700 and asked for a statement going back two years as I thought a lot of my payments were wrong as I was supposed to pay a €100 on a max balance of €1000 and yet I was often charge much more than this. Although I asked for this statement 9 months ago each time I ask at the bank they say they have not heard back from Visa and am now without a credit card - just use a card that can only be used in certain shops and which is the one they are now charging 50% late charge on. Do you think I could do something here - or is Spain still using its own methods and not EU.
Thanks for any advice - ps love your show

This has nothing to do with EU, only with Spanish law.
Talk to a Spanish lawyer (or pay your CC in time).
  • Well I try to pay my credit card on time - but it is not my fault if the paymaster general is not always on time. Anyway that was not the question - I was wondering if the same system would work in Spain - as there are a lot of UK citizens living here on our pensions who are having the same problems. I am really sorry if you are offended that I asked but am also slightly offended that you should think that I deliberately do not pay my CC on time. In some cases I am just two euros short and they will charge the extra.
