If you are veggie but not following slimming world recipe, I find Morrisons own brand veggie sausages far more appealing both in look an taste. I am afraid that pinky peeny look of quorn saussies puts me off them! ;) Also I think they are only £1.0 for six, though Morrisons do Quorn Sausages cheaper than most places.

Morrisons veggie burgers are good too, as are Sainsburys. We really prefer them to meat ones, in fact I would not eat a meat one now. I can imagine you could cut up the veggie burger into bite size pieces to replace meat. They are really good - try them.

  • Can I ask are the Morrisons veggie sausages that you speak about in the chilled or freezer section?

    Thanks :)

I have a couple of slow cooker questions as I'm giving some thought to whether it would be worth investing in one for our family.

It would be for vegetarian only dishes. I already know a few soup dishes I'd like to try in it. But 2 things I'd like to know.

I make a stew with tofu sausages and quinoa. Could I cook the quinoa in the SC just in the sauce or would I have to cook it first? (If the latter, I don't think it would be worth using a SC for this.)

I put onion in most things I cook. How does onion turn out in the SC? I really like to fry it till it's soft then add the other ingredients. I have visions of getting my bolognaise/curry out of the cooker and the onions being 'boiled' in there. How does it work? Do you just chop and add them and does it turn out okay? Or do you fry them till soft first, then add them?

Sometimes I struggle with enough room on the cooker for what I'm doing and it would be good just to have dinner on the go ready to serve up in the evenings. It would also free up some time to make more puddings which would go down well with my family.

So quinoa and onions? Anyone? Thanks.

On the onion front, I have added raw onions but the flavour is much improved if you fry them first, in my opinion.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

Does anyone fry a huge batch of onions then freeze in portions?

I have never done it, but my guess is they would not do well in S/c becuase unlike meat & veg they are not fibrous

If you consider veggie sausages [my only experince as I do not like Quorn] they crumble readily

Soya pieces I believe work in S/c but again no experience in this

Hopefully you will get a more informed answer soon

I have used Quorn pieces in the SC once, didn't brown them first and within 5 hours they'd fell to bits. The mince works fine in the SC, unsure what the fillets would be like.

Recipes wise, whatever I make with chicken I do with quorn, last one was italian style (like bolognese but I put chicken or quorn in instead of mince) also done in a teriyaki marinade, sweet and sour style, curry, thai curry

    Some other recipes using quorn

I tried it once with the quorn bits and it disintigrated to a fine powder! I found the best way was to cook the sauce in a slow cooker whilst at work, cook the quorn separately then throw them together just before eating. cel x
