How to change my name?

Yep d123, that's pretty much the wording I used! I created a "title sheet" that said "Deed of Change of Name" and then a second page with all that wording on - also a tip I had was to do 3 originals & get them signed/witnessed at the same time. Then if you have to send an original off (ie for passport) you have another you can use to change other documents, and also helps in case it gets lost in the post.....
Hope you get it sorted

Hey guys, i recently recieved one of those laird gift packs as a birthday present and apparently you can get all sorts of perks from putting it on your bank card. does anybody know how exactly you go about changing your title from Mr to Laird or Lord? or if its possible/ legal?
I know you can change your first name to Lord on a deed poll but i want to keep my name, change my title and have "lord M Byrne" on my bank card. It seems that many companies on the internet who offer a name changing service refuse to acknowledge a title change on the basis that it can be used to defraud people, which i can see is quite true. I only wanted to see if i could blag some VIP entry to a club when im out with my friends for a laugh!0 -
sort of off subject but your title is a prefered title, not a given title,
my library card now says 'Wing Commander' on it and all my utilities bills come addressed to 'Lord'. stupid I know but it does give me a bit of pleasure when I phone orange and insist they call me Lord Steve throughout the call

if you are in Scotland you can do it by declaration (sp) after two years if that and every one calling you by that name you can get you name changed on everthing, as long as your not doing it for fraud.LBM:j -16/06/04

This is the one of the restriction pages I foundAre there any restrictions on names?
Although there are no laws in the United Kingdom relating to unsuitable names, there are restrictions we impose on what you can change your name to.
Name restrictions
We will not accept an order for a Deed Poll for a name that:
is impossible to pronounce,
includes numbers or symbols,
includes punctuation marks - although you can have a hyphen to link forenames or surnames (for example, if you want a double-barrelled surname) and an apostrophe in the case of surnames like O'Brien.
we consider vulgar, offensive, blasphemous or unsuitable,
may result in others believing you have a conferred or inherited honour, title or rank, for example, a change of first name to Sir, Lord, Laird, Lady, Prince, Princess, Baron, Baroness, Count, Countess, General, Colonel etc.,
does not include at least one forename and one surname.

From what I understand they do not have to be legally sealed any more & indeed the one I did myself wasn't - and was accepted by every organisation I have dealt with in the past 2 years, including the Passport Office, DVLA, banks, and so on. As noted in post 10 by d123 the details you get via the link will also tell you about Sealing requirements (or the fact you don't need to).Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)

I believe giving yourself a false Military rank may actually be a criminal offence, carrying a prison sentence of up to five years - but calling yourself Lord (or Lady) isn't.0 -

yeah that is exactly the sort of thing i keep finding. the ukdps website was the first one i came accross. i found a web page all about buying a title and it seems to be impossible from the sound of it unless you get permission from either the queen or the "lord lyon" in scottland..
this is the site if anybody wants to read
