How to change my name?

Me and my mam want to change our name, I'm 21 so I don't need permission off anyone else. We have been to the solicitors and they said it would be £125.00 per person but it's not by deed poll it's just a change of name by a solicitor. She would not say how much it would cost to have it changed officially by deed poll, she said it would go through London but would cost a lot of money.

Can anyone help please, Thanks! :)

Sorry I don't know anything about deed pole, but I just wanted to make sure that you weren't reverting to a previous name. I reverted to my maiden name when I got divorced. That is free. You just need to write to everyone proving that that was you previously,

sort of off subject but your title is a prefered title, not a given title,
my library card now says 'Wing Commander' on it and all my utilities bills come addressed to 'Lord'. stupid I know but it does give me a bit of pleasure when I phone orange and insist they call me Lord Steve throughout the call
  • I did this for free - found the wording on the internet. It's called a Deed of Change of Name now I think, rather than Deed Poll. Typed it up, printed it out on nice thick cream paper & got it witnessed by 2 people. That was it. It doesn't need to be done by a solicitor or even one of the internet companies that will charge you £30-£60. I did it 2 years ago & had no problems at all using it to change passport, driving licence, or registering with a professional body for training/work.

So it can be very simple - and very moneysaving!!!
