Rented House- House Rules

Can someone point me in the direction of some sensible house rules for a shared house?

Just to cover usual things like quiet time, guests, cleaning & sharing of food etc?

Thanks

    Always wash dishes after use.

Set up a rota for cleaning kitchen; bathroom; hall stairs and landing.

    No smoking

Check all electrical items switched off before bed.

Our rule with guests was only partners after 11pm on weekdays and 1am on weekends, without permission (ie if we all had a party together then it could go on past 1!) Some people have extra rules about partners but none of us had any issue with the other's partners (all long term, quiet and we became friends with them).

Do your own washing up, within 1 hour of finishing your meal (sounds strict but if it isn't done then it won't get done) unless a specific reason (ie rushing out to football training etc)

Empty bin when it is full.

Clean the bathroom etc by a rota.

Other than that we didn't have many rules. My main issues were with cleaning, and with noise late at night (I had to get up in the morning, they didn't!)

    And def no smoking!!!
  • WE never ever had rules. We were all just reasonable, and it worked perfectly.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

If it's empty, put it in the bin.

If you dirty it, wash it.

If you use it, put it away.

If you finish the loo roll, change it.

Turn lights/electrical things off after you've used them.

If you're the last one out, check the windows and doors are locked.
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all
