Full tank fuel or half ?
Options
On Martin's tv programme motoring special the RAC man suggested that using a full tank was not a good idea due to extra weight- i can see the point of this However,. i use a full tank of fuel, but if i used half a tank it would mean another journey and therefore extra uncessary mileage .
So is it still worth putting half a tank in instead and incurring an extra journey as a result?

It will have only a small effect on the weight of the car and fuel consumption. the average person would weigh more than half a tank of petrol I would imagine.
If you wanted to take car weight loss to the extreme you could remove unneeded seats, empty the boot, ditch the spare wheel, remove the carpets and so on.0 -
how much does it cost to fill your car £80 about 80 litres and a litre of petrol will weigh no more then a kilo i would imagine so as the previous post says no more then most people (40kgs)
Just looked it up, 0.72kg for each litre.
I always thought it was one of those myths that it saved you money by making the car lighter because even if the petrol stations on the way you have to brake, accelerate and turn your engine off.[FONT=georgia, bookman old style, palatino linotype, book antiqua, palatino, trebuchet ms, helvetica, garamond, sans-serif, arial, verdana, avante garde, century gothic, comic sans ms, times, times new roman, serif]A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it

also add in the fact that if you do high mileage and go through a full tank a week, the price of petrol/ diseal keeps rising so if you only fill half a tank, u have lost opportunity to fill the other half of tank with cheaper fuel as when you return, prices have gone up and any saving gone plus like the post above the etra fuel cost of getting there to refill0

Good point about the rising costs thats probably your real saving it always goes up by a penny each time i have to refill.[FONT=georgia, bookman old style, palatino linotype, book antiqua, palatino, trebuchet ms, helvetica, garamond, sans-serif, arial, verdana, avante garde, century gothic, comic sans ms, times, times new roman, serif]A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it

Yes you should always fill up unless you're down to the last few quid in your wallet and don't have enough to get home.
I fill up a lot and it amazes me to see people sit in ques at petrol stations, argue with someone who sneaks in front of them, etc, then they only fill up with £10 and come back within the next day or two to do the same again!0 -
Hi
Some cars, have a fuel tank that will get rusty from the inside if you fill half a tank all the time. Eventually, you may need to replace it, making any savings not worthwhile. Plus, as mentioned before, the extra journey to refill another half will cost more than what you might save in reducing the weight.Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -
Well up here it will probably be academic wwe will soon beglad of a quarter tank let alone a full one. BBC news (probaly try to be sensational) is claiming that Edinburgh buses are about to run out of Diesel.0
