Paypal Not Safe

I recently purchased a very expensive tap from a company called Biasco as I was sitting at my computer with no credit/debit card to hand I thought I would use paypal to part with £390 direct from my bank account thinking it was the same as paying by credit card, WRONG! Biasco went into administration so I contacted paypal for my money back. They opened a buyer dispute and closed a buyer disspute in my favour. I phoned to see when they would refund my money only to be told that they would not refund my money as their advertised purchase security only covers selected item purchases through their parent company Ebay, not from major retailers offering Paypal as as a safe way to purchase online. I would be very grateful for any suggestions as to how I might be able to get my money back.

  • You might get more answers on the ebay board, although I haven't come across this before.

You should ALWAYS use a credit card for purchases on Paypal, but I guess hindsight is a wonderful thing...

Have you tried talking to your bank?

Unfortunatly when I had trouble with paypal and they refused to cancel the transaction, my bank said there was nothing they could do as I had willingly given my account/card details to paypal to act as 'go-between'.
  • if you made the payment from your bank, it should be classed as a direct debit, so you should be able to claim it back under the direct debit guarantee.

You still need to be careful though - some banks are starting to treat Paypal payments as cash advances from your card, thus removing half your protection and charging more interest at the same time.
