PC pretty poorly!!!

I started a thread yesterday asking for help, as I thought I may have clicked a dodgy pop up masquerading as something from AOL. I am now convinced it was as I have been having major problems with PC ever since, brief list of problems

- Not connecting to AOL sometimes, and then v.slow
- if it does connect you might get a little while on sites but then it will lock up (this fooled me into thinking it was ok this morning)
- Virus protection and scans not working (we don't have any thing really decent on it to start with)
- Try to download new ones as suggested on here, but none are completing (except kaspersky). The last one said this - Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avgamsvr.exe: starting service....
Access is denied. (5)

- did manange to download kaspersky which found 6 virus's, but I have not enough knowledge to remove them myself, as I don't think it does it for you
- go to the start menu to restart computer but the option box does not come up, end up having to turn off at power socket on wall as ctrl, alt, delete does not work and neither does the front power button
-keep having a pop up saying "unable to (not sure what word) file transfer, and will have to close, then send error report or not, this is before I haev even tried downloading anything etc

What the heck do I do???? something pretty major is going on with it, but as stated in previous posts I do not have the knowledge to sort it out without some technical help/support

Are any of you able to post some suggestions??? or do I just call out someone to look at it????

Look forward to hearing from you (that is if I can get back onto AOL!)

    oo err..... sounds serious....

you do need to get some antivirus/anitspam software installed....

you could try, going into safe mode, ie when the windows logo appears when powering on, hit the F8 key, this should bring up a menu, select safe mode, then retry the kaspersky anti virus scan, also retry the install for the other software
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

    It's bad isn't it!!!

We have Norton on here, but it just locks up half way through scanning, also forgot to mention if I try to get into the control panel etc I can click on the logo, but nothing happens, on anything?????!!!

Could I try system restore???? I don't know where or how to do it though!! Everything was ticking along nicely (although I hadn't done any windows updates for a while) before this happened, so mad with myself!!!

Just tried Norton again and it's only the free version (don't think we have put anything back on (full versions etc) properly after we had a major system crash ages ago) and it finished scanning this time and found this

    W32.Virut.B - Risk High - Unhandled

I don't know why it found 1 when kaspersky found 6 (couldn't understand the results of that though, so don't know what they were)

Just tried adaware again and that won't load whatsoever, I can't do the AOL computer check up or anything? or load spybot etc on at all.

I havn't done that safe mode thing yet, my eyes are starting to feel the strain tonight, so will have to come back to this tomorrow evening, hope you guys in the know have some idea of what is going on!

Look forward to hearing from you

P.S - something weird happened when I posted a reply to my thread, I went into a different forum, came back and it highlighted this thread title in bold, so I thought I had a reply but it was actually my post? almost as if the computer hadn't recognised me as me, if you see what I mean????

It is possible the virus is preventing your AV software working properly. Try running the scan in safe mode as suggested above (hit F8 before Windows starts to load).
