does washing at 60 damage your clothes?

this may seem like a daft question, but i've never washed clothes above a 40 temp before. my washing machine is badgered and i like the look of the indesit moon so because i'm in a hurry i've ordered one without reading enough reviews.

it's listed as a 1400 spin but apparently it only spins at 1000 if you're doing a standard 40 wash, and less than that if you're washing at 30.

the only way to get a 1400 spin it seems is to do a 60 wash, and it doesn't give you a spin only option so you'd have to do the whole wash cycle.

i see tv ads telling you to turn down to 30 etc. and am wondering if washing everything at 60 would be a waste of electricity etc? and would it do any damage to our clothes?

You should be able to adjust the temperature once you've selected the setting.

I know on mine I select the 'A' wash, which is 1400spin/60degrees....then press a button to turn the temp to 40.

Have you got it yet or are you awaiting delivery?

Mine's the same as Louise's to get the fast spin, it starts on the 60C cycle, but I can just change the temperature setting down to 40. Mine's not an Indesit though.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.
  • i'm awaiting delivery. it was a review site that mentioned not being able to get the 1400 spin on a cooler cycle.

If the wash care label says 40C, then it would be unwise to wash your clothes (garment) at 60C.;)

It's best to check the label before you wash, then you'll prolong the life of the garment and avoid any shrinkage or damage.;)

  • I find most synthetics shrink even at 40 deg. 30 deg is a good all round wash, but hard to get rid of stubborn stains. I just wear my shirts and jeans over and over till the dirt shows, then wash it. Of course I get thru new undies and socks every day.

Def not 60c. I rekon cotton is alrite and some high quality stuff. If it says 40, wash at 40.

    Hope this helps

    (I had to check lol)

    But no, it isn't.

You won't really know if there are other options you can use until you get it and have a play with the settings.

Our machine can spin up to 1200 but we have only ever used the 1000 and it seems ok. They aren't dripping or anything when I take them out.
