American Fridge-Freezer With Water Dispenser

We're going to be buying an American fridge-freezer and was looking for some advice....I know the Samsung RS21 one has a cold water dispenser but no ice dispenser and I gather this means it does not need to be plumbed separately. Are there any others with this feature?

As well as the problems with the Samsung I am put off because the side of it is not the same colour as the front and in our kitchen, the side is basically the first thing you would see when you walk in. Are all fridge-freezers like this or do some look nice from the side too?!?

Thanks

I got a Samsung, its never gone wrong, its about 2 & a half years old,
It has one for chilled filtered water & one for ice, crushed or cubed.
Its a graphite, brushed grey sort of colour, ALL OVER.

    Hello TessaW

Before you buy a Samsung RS21, have a look at the link below. BBC Watchdog have reported that this model has a design flaw and you might regret buying it.;)

Thanks for your advice. I am aware of the problems with the RS21 - that's why I was wondering if there are any others with a water dispenser that don't need plumbed in (I'm not going to be able to get one that is plumbed in)....does anybody know of any?

I'd seriously consider the LG over the Samsung. You maybe slightly limited with choice on the LG but the ones you can get are very good quality. Been running our LG for a good couple of years. Just had to plumb it into an existing cold water feed using one of those self hole making tap things. Sorry I don't know what their technical name is. It was an easy job... I'm now considering another LG american style fridge for my other house. Been looking for a good deal and think the LG-GRL207TUJA for about £649 (water, ice and crushed) is the one I’m going for, have also seen it cheaper at a local retailer for about £624 with 2 years warranty.

When we got ours from Comet in 2005 we managed to haggled the price down a little but got the 5 years warrantee included…

How easy is it to change the filter in these machines.

As far as I know very easy... So long as you can get to it, as it's normally tucked away behind the fridge. I think it's just a case of releasing the two connections either side and pop in the new one.

If you have space, go for proper American Fridge Freezer, either by Maytag or Admiral, excellent products. Much deeper than UK versions, hence more capacity. Check out models on www.kelkoo.co.uk
  • Hi, I am planning to by one of these which needs to be plumbed in. Could anyone tell me if there is a max distance that the freezer has to be from the main water supply - thanks

You get a long skinny flexi thin pipe, that will go a fair way.

I put mine in & had my kitchen done at the same time, so I had a copper pipe brought all the way around the kitchen with a turnie off valve at the end & the thin flexi pipe is fixed to that, so there is loads of slack for pulling it in & out & changing the filter.
