Barclay card query on final payment...

barcly card.
where do i stand with this one?
I phoned up in february to get a final balance to pay off my credit card (which was approx £2k)
i sent off the cheque and it cleared and thought that was that.
Last month (march) i got a bill and it had interest only on it (approx £12) i argued the case that i should not have to pay for it because i asked for a final bill and paid it. The guy eventually spoke to his supervisor , and they agreed the balance would be written off. I said to the guy so now i owe barclay card nothing and he said yes. I thought that was the end of it.
This month bill came in today and it was for £12 interest + £12 late payment fee. Again got on the phone and argued the case out that the guy in the previous month had told him the balance was cleared, and that i wanted the balanced to be cleared.
The woman eventually got her supervisor, and they agreed to do that, i asked for my account to be closed. I got passed to another one in the uk. She said the previous woman had just cleared to late payment fee and that i still owed £12interest.
again i said in february i got a final figure, paid it, got bill in march phoned and complained and the person said i owed nothing. She went away and came back and said there was no call reference concerning marchs phone call, and that the £12of interest still stands.
Where do i go from here, its really the principle of the matter that annoys me most.l
Yes its only £12, but i asked for a final figure to pay off the credit card once and for all.
any ideas appreciated!
thanks
nick

...i asked for a final figure to pay off the credit card once and for all.
They won't be able to provide you with that, and especially if you're paying by cheque, since interest is accruing daily on your account and they won't know how long the payment will take to arrive/be processed/clear onto your account. They'll only be able to give you a 'snap-shot' figure.

You could lodge a formal complaint about the information/mis-information you were given (in order to get the late payment marker removed from your credit file), but you're going to need names/extension numbers, dates, and times of the calls to get a result I fear.

The original additional interest was correct and is normal when settling an account - it is known as "residual interest" and represents interest accrued between the final statement date and the date of the actual payment.

However, because they did promise to remove this interest and are going back on their word, then I would instigate a formal complaint with them and request that the interest is removed and that any late payment markers are removed from your credit report.

    Good Luck!
  • ok thanks! Shall just pay it then....
