Radiography? or Architecture / Engineering?

Hello everyone!

Currently having a bit of a crisis about what to do. :o

Here is my situation:

12 GCSE's - Mainly B Grade

Currently sudying Science & Maths with the Open Uni - 70 Points.

Now, I was planning on going uni in 2009 to study Radiography full time, but recently I have been thinking of doing Architectural Engineering..

Obviously two totally different things... I think both would be cool, but I would love to do architecture. The thing is, and I suppose I already know Radiography would be a better solution, but I just am not too sure what to do.

Radiography is a government funded course, with a possible bursary of £500 a month, plus a guaranteed job at the end of it.

Architecture/Engineering, is a 2year HND, then a 3/4 year degree and then probably 5 yrs work experience before I get anywhere.

Someone tell me that Radiography is my best option, I kinda know it is, but can't get Architecture out of my head.. :o

    Hi there,

Well, if you think you'll be more interested in architecture then you should go for it! However, if you think you'll enjoy radiography just as much then it's probably the most sensible choice. You'll have a job for life, a good salary and won't have to worry too much about money as a student. They're such different choices you should ask yourself if you really want to be a healthcare professional for your whole life or if you want the challenge of getting through architecture.

    Best of luck!

    Thanks NoAngel..

    I'm just not sure really.

If I do Radiography I feel like i'm going for the easy option, and will I regret not going for the dream job of Architecture..?

& then I think that Radiography is a good career and I am just being realistic and sesible in deciding, and maybe Architecture is going to be very difficult..?

Arrrgh, I just can't seem to decide..

I know what you mean! I had similar options... I could have applied for a course like radiography (i worked as a radiography assistant in my gap year, so i even had the perfect work experience!), but instead applied for a science course in the hope of getting into medicine. This hasn't yet happened and I'm now finishing Year 2 of a course I'm not that keen on and I find really difficult. To do medicine now would mean moving away (which is almost impossible as my bf and I have bought a house) and also mean a total of 9 years studying at uni! I really wish I'd have studies radiography and in a few weeks I'd be graduating as a radiographer about to earn some good money and get a great job!

Hmm.. that's a shame, but I reckon all things happen for a reason.. I hope you find something worthwhile out of your hard work :)

I think Radiography would be cool.. The thing is they are both based on images, xrays = images and architecture = images.. so I can kind of see why I have been drawn (excuse the pun) to both of them..

I don't have any advise really but wanted to wish you luck with whatever course you decide to go for.
I'm starting an access course in September, access to Radiography :D
So if all goes to plan i hope to go to uni in 2009 to do Radiography.

Its taken me ages to decide on Radiography as i was thinking about Midwifery too.
In the end i thought that with Radiography i'd have a better chance of getting a job, as i know a few Midwives who are qualified & have no job. It'd be upsetting to work so hard not not be able to get a decent job at the end of it which is why i've decided on Radiography.

    Oooh, good luck Daisy! :)

Which Access course are you doing? I was looking at doing Access to Health Professions, is that what you are doing?

    Thank you :)

The access course is called Access to Radiography, i'm not sure about what it all entails yet. I start on Sept 16th, but have to go for half a day in June or July to meet everyone.
I'm excited but also nervous, i left school 12 years ago with rubbish GCSEs but thats my fault for not studying properly as i hated school back then.

Architecture is a very hard and demanding course, at times coul draining.

The payoff is very good, but it is up to you.

Alot my my architecture freinds are up in the studio past midnight for weeks at a time.

Radiography would be interesting... and most probably lead to a less stressful life! Its what you want really.

I think I am going to go for radiography, i would love architecture, but i don't think i'm made of strong enough stuff to see it through til the end :o
