Sick Notes

Hi

Does anybody know how far back a doctor can do a Sick note for you?

Im on IB Ive been for my Medical but I need to get another Sick Note from him to cover me until I see what the results are from my Medical.

Also can evidence come from a Chiropractor to show you have problems?

Answers would be great.

I didn't think a doctor could backdate a sick note. He certainly couldn't (or wouldn't) do it for me. The longest he provided one for me was 13 weeks. I am surprised you have not been asked for a Med 4 form with your IB50 questionnaire if you have already been for a medical. If you have provided one of these you no longer need to hand in sick notes.

It depends on the doctor I'm afraid!
Although not an IB processor, I work closely with them and have known of Doctors who will state that their patient has 'been continuously sick from ......' and then sign their patient off for a futher period (in effect backdating their medical evidence).
Perhaps you could have a word with your Doctor?

As Jul22 has said it depends on the Doctor, but I have read of Doctors backdating sicks notes for up to a year for Benefit purposes so I dont know if there is even a limit. Any supposrting evidence may help your claim, but it may be a bit late now if you have had your medical.

The Medical Evidence Regulations 1976 are quiet clear, and apply to all GP's.

A GP can only backdate a sick note to the first date when a patient was examined.

It is an offence for a GP to issue a sick note for a period when a patient was not examined, and this would be seen as faudulent by DWP.

If the patient has been examined in this period of incapacity, there should be no problem in the GP issuing a backdated Med 5.

    Thank you

I have had the Med 4 form but it was for 3months & Ive had a letter sent to me to say I need another.

I need to get another one until I get the decision from the Medical which is due soon.

    Thank you

Do you know how long results take? I cant remember.

A PCA decision is usually made within a month of you being examined.

    Thank you

Do you mean from the first date that the patient was examined meaning from their first visit from getting their first sick note at the beginning of their claim?

    OR

Do you mean that when their last sick note ended that the patient should have gone bank to their GP at that time?

My note ran out 2 weeks ago but I couldnt get an appointment until tomorrow.

    Answers much appreciated.

if your GP still considers you still incapable for work, shouldn't have a problem getting a Med 5 backdated 2 weeks if your GP has already seen you before this date.
