To avoid having to drill into the UPVC frames, you can use the plastic self adhesive hooks, but they are not that reliable as the sticky pads aren't that
strong, the glue dries out after 6 - 12 months, and they start falling off. You then have to buy more hooks, or stick them backup with some glue.
Avoid the tension rods - my experience is that they are too heavy for their own good.

I really am trying to avoid drilling any holes as I can see bit and then chunks of plaster falling on me.

Find a local haberdashery and take in your window dimensions. They'll cut you off just what you need rather than having to pay for extra net that your only going to cut off and bin. Nets no longer have to look like something out of your granny's house anymore as you can get some quite nice patterns - which actually surprised me as i never used to like net curtains!

I'd go for a tension rod to hold them up though. Don't remember what make ours are however they aren't too heavy and don't sag in the middle like standard net rods or wires. Very simple to fit and easy to take down when you want to wash the nets.

Some nets in our house are/were on rods supported by plastic self-adhesive hooks but they drive us nuts as the hooks are always coming unstuck. Avoid drilling holes in the window frame (like previous owner of our house did) as it looks awful if you decide you don't want nets!

for the upvc windows we drill into the wall to insert the hooks for the curtain wire.
for the patio doors we have a 6ft wooden dowel that the nets hang on. supported in the middle with a very small nail. you cant see anything.
    (the outer frame is hardwood).
    Get some gorm.

you need a plastic tension rod that you get from anywhere that sells nets.

they are expandable to whatever width you need. Its 2 pieces of metal that slide out and then are secured to the width by screwing a screw and you just wedge them into the recess in the window. The one you need will cost around a fiver.

as a previous poster said, vertical blinds are v popular and for your size window will probably only cost around £30. I have these at the front of my house but upstairs in the back i've got nets.

    good luck

Should there not be a comma, apostophe and full stop in your final sentence?

If you have a Dunelm near you they do nets, well, curtains, not like, .. you know fishing nets.

Or Chiltern Mills do them as well I think!

and some of the mail order catalogues still do them I think.

www.nets2go.co.uk do net curtains, rods, blinds and curtains. They also do made-to-measure nets for non-standard sizes (brilliant if you're rubbish at sewing, and it doesn't cost an awful lot more), and will send you free samples.
I've bought nets and roller blinds from them and haven't had a problem.
