Hi there, get someone on your side wether it be CAB or ringing up for a Welfare Rights Officer to help. You both don't need to handle this on your own.You have two children to think of and the stress is enormous.Give them a ring or at least ring the Benefits Enquiry Line to find out first hand where you stand. 0800882200. Good Luck

My guess would be it will be the Working Tax Credit 4 week run on being taken into account as income only now, but I may well be wrong.

Child Benefit is for the children which is why it is not taken into account on new claims for IS and JSA. Likewise CTC now pays the child element that used to be paid by IS and JSA and so they won't be taking that into account either.

As bigbill said, it could be the Working Tax Credit 4 week run-on. Have you received that recently as WTC is taken into account?

Either way, when the processing section return your call on Friday, if the person on the other end is not able to give you a satisfactory answer then ask to speak to the Line Manager so that you can get to the bottom of it.

    Best of luck

    Thanks for your replies

firstly I don't see how thay could have took CTC into account as we got the letter about the JSA reductions a long time before our Tax credits award was sorted (which was also wrong, now sorted though!)

We have never recieved Working tax Credits so can't see how they can take that into account either and surely if neither of us work we wouldn't be getting them anyway?

It can't be because of Child Benefit as that is an entitlement anyone, rich or poor, is entitled to for your children and we have been told that our JSA claim doesn't include anything for our boys as the CHB makes up the claim for them.

I think I'm going to contact the DWP as they are the imbiciles responsible for making everything such a cocked up confusing mess as far as benefits are concerned, that nobody knows what's what!!

I'll let you know what they say

Not got any savings have you?

Details of your household income would help people to perhaps see what has happened and give better advice.

We Don't have any savings, never have done, I like spending money too much :D

The only income we get at the moment is JSA, which is/was Contribution based and income based, Child Benefit of £31 Per week and just got our CTC award sorted which is £89 Per week.
WE get full Council Tax Benefit, but no help with our Mortgage.
We have no pensions or any income from any other sources so what the Jobcentre have done I really don't know.

been on to their website and found this, so I'me even more confused now:confused:

    Personal allowances - couple Rate
    Both aged 16-17: £47.95
Both aged 16/17, one disabled: £47.95
Both aged 16/17, with responsibility for a child: £72.35
    One aged 16/17, one aged 18-24: £47.95
One aged 16/17, one aged over 25: £60.50
Both aged 18 or over: £94.95

    Dependent children Rate
Payable from birth up to the day before their 20th birthday: £52.59

I'm really baffled about the children one as we have told them we have 2 kids but on our claim it is shown Children - £0, so why don't we get the £52.59?

Feel like my head is going to explode with frustration over all this

That rate is the amount payable on old claims where the child element was included in IS/JSA. You receive CTC for your children instead.

The amounts are around the same so you're not losing out on anything. You currently receive around £120 per week for your children which is more or less equivalent to [2x £52.59 + FP (around £16) - £31(CB) = £89] - same as your CTC, plus CB of £31 = £120
