Can I make a DVD recorder multi-region?

I'm thinking of buying this Daewoo DVDR/VCR combi and know that it is set to region 2, does anyone know if this can be converted to multi region?

I know that some DVD players can be converted through the remote control menus, but as this is also a DVD recorder I wondered if it would also be possible?

Thanks for any ideas/comments. Dan.

    Hi Dan.

There is somewhere on the forum a request for a multi region hack for a Sharp Combo of similar spec.

For some reason, hacks for combo's seem almost impossible to find - almost any DVD player hack - if it exists - can usually be found by a straight Google search.

Combo's like this often seem not to have either software or hardware hacks.

I'd suggest, if you want a bit of kit like this, use the link that has already been supplied above to see if such a combo is manufactured.

    Good luck!
  • Be careful, I bought an ELLION DVD Recorder, followed the "unofficial" instructions on the web of how to upgrade the firmware, and make it multi-region... and it stuffed the machine completely. I ended up pretending the thing just stopped working, and got it repaired under warranty. The good news though, when it came back... it was multiregion !! so the engineers who fixed it, left it on region code zero....

    Most fortunate!

There does seem to be a trend emerging that simple DVD players - especially really cheap ones - can be made to do anything, whereas Combo's offer up more resisitance.

By the way, it's also worth noting that when the guy in the pub offers you a 5 for £20 deal on pirate DVDs of films that often haven't even appeared at the cinema yet (I say "guy", but normally very cute Chinese girl - so hard to say no) often only play on really cheap DVD players - so fine on my son's car portable, and £29.95 bedroom player, but no chance on serious (in my case Tosh 900E) kit.
