my wife and I have just paid off the mortgage and have approx £50k to stash away. We want to buy more properties to renovate so the money cannot be locked away for a long time. My wife is a teacher on approx £37k, I am currently recovering after renovating two properties! Karen wants to retire after 25 years service approx 10 years from now and do something else. Property worth £200k but not prepared to put as collateral now we are mortgage free.
We have a virgin one account with large facility. I am self employed. We have a IFA coming next week but I would like some general ideas before he arrives so i can see if we are all on the right track.
Not a risk taker. Want to maybe buy property abroad as investment.

Thats a bit of a contradiction. Property abroad is a bit higher risk than UK stockmarket investments.
I doubt the IFA will be much help for you as its almost certainly going to be a savings account with a bank or building society that will be suitable.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
