Staircases and doors at the top

I am having a new staircase put into my loft and at the top it needs enclosing with a fire door to make it an escape route.

Now can my last step be before the door or do i need some kind of landing after the last step and the door at the top???

If so how big does the landing have to be???

I have a feeling there is a Reg that deals with this issue, but it escapes me at present. I *think* there must be at least the width of the stairs clear of any door opening, but I'm sure one of the other guys will be along shortly to confirm this.

Important Edit! Just found this The minimum length of a landing should not be less than the stair width. At the top of a stair a door may not open over this minimum length of landing. However, at the bottom of the stair a door may swing over part of the landing providing a minimum length of 400mm is maintained between the door swing and the stair.
