Faulty TV

I bought a Toshiba LCD TV in Nov 2007 from Dixons, its now got a fault, the engineers have been to look at it and they want to take it away and repair it, I told them they couldn't as I think that is unacceptable when its only 5 months old, they told me it needs a new screen! I have spoken to Dixons several times and all they will do is repair it, I have asked if they will exchange it for a new one and they won't even do that.
What can I do next, were do I stand as regards the law on this - Sale of Goods Act etc
Any Help Please
Steve

Do like i did and make a scene in the store, the manager will get involved and you will soon be the owner of a new TV0

Hi Sprob - I worked for many years in TV service and repair and although I agree that you may get your way by causing choas in the showroom, the usual course of things is that you have to give them 28 days to effect a repair, after that time you are entitled to an exchange/refund. That said, if the fault is with the LCD panel itself the TV will almost certainly be exchanged-eventually. -keith19500

Hello sprob
I'll move your thread to 'The (Consumer) Vent' board.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. As it's 5 months old, I believe you're entitled to a repair.
What's the problem with it being repaired? It's not brand new, so unless they can't repair it, you won't get offered a replacement. You need to give them a fair chance to repair it first.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
After you have accepted the goods any issues it's the retailers choice of repair, replacement or refund.0

At 5 months old anything could have happened to it in your house. A repair is all you're entitled to at first. If it is not repaired when it's returned to you then you can ask for a replacement or refund. Even then the store is going to reasonably ask that they try to have it repaired again and may offer a substitute to tide you over whilst yours is being repaired. Who's to say someone hasn't just walked into the telly, or dropped it disrupting the screen and it needs repairing?
Give them a chance to repair it, after 5 months of faultless work i don't think i'd be offering a refund/replacement just like that.
