Moving into New-build House

Hi

I'm about to move into a new-build property in Shropshire and am not sure how to a) get myself connected to gas and Electricity and b) which supplier(s) to choose.

The problem with choosing supplier is that every time I try a comparison web site (Moneysupermarket, Uswitch etc) they need a current supplier. As there isn't one I can never get to check prices!

Ideas very gratefully received.

When you move in, you will have suppliers that were arranged by the builders.

Any supplier will do, as the cheapest should come out on top. Your biggest problem is that you won't know what your annual kWh usage will be!

    Ideas very gratefully received.

Move in first and then transfer to the best/cheapest supplier.

You can of course pretend that your supplier is so-and-so. Don't believe the comparison sites, get into the suppliers sites from the comparison site and note down their prices per kWh.
You can sign up to anyone straight away, you energy bills shouldn't be too high with "summer" approaching. You will have plenty of time to work your way through all the web sites to get the best prices for next winter.
  • We were with eon automatically for gas and electricity. There was a clause that we had to stay with them for 3 months but when I did the online price comparisons even on Eon's website, it was the cheapest by changing to online saver tariff.

My neighbours got in touch with eon but no matter how many phone calls they make eon fail to take on there account. They are putting money to a side and they hope they never get caught.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

In your handover pack you should get some information about your supplier which will contain a phone number for new build customers.

Your builders will take the final readings for the gas and electric the day you get your keys. I think we then had to give these readings to EDF when we contacted them.

Don't forget when using the comparison sites that you will more than likely have a IGT gas supply (do a search on here if you don't know what an IGT is).
