computer wont boot up.

hi folks.my daughter,s dell comp will not boot up.when you press the start up button it starts then stops(light on start button goes out).after a second or so it starts again but doesn,t do anything.can here the fan running but it wont boot up.any ideas please.thanks in advance

It's probably a faulty PSU, but it could also be a faulty motherboard. Either way, there's no easy fix, you'll need to get it looked at.

You could try re-seating the RAM (taking it out and putting it back in again) but it doesn't sound like that kind of problem to me.

Try and clear the cmos - there should be a jumper on the mo/bo-see your mo/bo manual. Otherwise remove the battery from the mo/bo and unplug the power cable for half an hour.

thanks for the replies :beer: but comp now booted up.kept trying it without success until ran out of patience :mad: and punched it and it booted up straight away.:D

Hi All,

One of our work PCs was like that once, every time it broke (it wasn't the best ever, cheapest components possible) taking it for a ride in the car to have a look at it seemed to fix it, so the vibrations must have done it some good.
