Things to do around Chichester?

Hi Guys

We are going to Chichester (West Sussex)for a week in July and was wondering whether there are any places to visit that are good value for money:confused:

I am in a wheelchair, so places need to be disabled friendly.

Also, my folks are staying with us for a couple of nights and would like to take them out for a Sunday Roast and wondered if anyone had any recommendations on where to eat that is good as we love our roasts:D

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You will be spoilt for choice in and around Chichester!

Try Denmans Gardens next to Fontwell Racecouse. A lovely garden and garden centre and a really good restaurant.
  • Hello,

Not sure if this is too late but why not....

go for a trip on one of the canal boats. They run from the canal basin, are lovely and relaxing and take wheelchairs. Not sure of precise cost but was inexpensive when I last went. Its a charity run by volunteers who drive the boats etc.

our Cathedral in Chi is very lovely, just a donation required if you wanted to have a look around it.

visit West Dean Gardens? They have loads of greenhouses, open gardens and different sections. Very weather dependant and it is a little more costly although I love it there and would say its good value. Not sure if they have any special events when you are around- I always go to the Chili Fiesta but that isn't until August.

Visit Arundel? Not too far from chichester it used to have LOADS of antique shops and although it doesn't have as many as it used to, its still a lovely place to go around.

You could always go to Bosham as well... there is a nice tarmaced loop path around the harbour and there is a craft centre with coffee shop and some different little stores. They have a rather nice ice cream place if you did want to spend a little money....

Chichester Festival Theatre reduces tickets by 50% for anyone with a disability and their companion- don't know if anything takes your fancy that they are showing. I only know this as I just checked their website- they used to do a thing where an hour before any performance you could get the best available remaining seat for £5 (I've had some amazing seats that way!!!). I havn't been in a couple of years and couldn't find anything on the site but stumbled across this. If they do still do the £5 deal, its certainly value for money :p

Am a veggie so no advice re Sunday roasts as never had one whilst living in Chi. However I second dfs10's recommendation of Denman's Garden Centre- the restaurant there is lovely. The George Pub (North Street) or the Old Cross Inn (North Street also. They do lovely Selsey Crab) are both nice for food and good value- I would presume they do a Sunday Roast.

    hope that helps!

I'm a local too and Chichester is a lovely place, it excels in friendliness. Some of the shops in town are in old buildings and have steps but staff are happy to assist. I would recommend a trip to Littlehampton as well if the weather is good, lovely beach and harbour and all wheelchair friendly. Amberley Working Museum is good too. Enjoy!
Self employed and loving it :D
