noisy washing machine...can it be fixed?

my washing machine has started making a really odd noise. It's fine when it's spinning, but when washing, the first time it tries to turn to drum it groans. [hmm.. just realised how hard it is to describe a sound....it's sort of like a low deep noise, almost as it something needs oiling]

Is this fixable, & is it safe to keep using it whilst it makes this noise?

How old is the machine? It sounds like the bearings which isn't good. You can still use it but will only get progressively worse.

Have a look at this http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/diy-repair-tips.html and other sites using google.

I have always found washing machines quite easy to fix.........it is usually swopping a part rather than repairing. Most cities have trade outlet where all the bits can be bought, or any amount of internet sellers of the bits.

  • It sounds as though you may have a problem with the bearings but it could also be some thing like a sock stuck between the inner and outer drum, hither way its not the simplest of jobs to fix but there is plenty of sites on the net with details on how to fix both problems and other companies who will come round and do the washing machine repairs for you.

Below is a link to a company who have done a lot of work for us including electric oven repairs for me and they also offer a fixed price washing machine repair, the guy who always comes round is very polite and explains everything as he works which is very helpful because next time round we have a better understanding of the problem and in some cases can do it ourselves. To find the company do a google search for "advancecare.co.uk"
