Have I done something REALLY naughty!?

I'm feeling a bit guilty about something - and I guess I'm looking for reassurance that I'm not gonna be arrested!

I got my pregnancy Bounty pack from Asda because I was told it had lots of discount vouchers in it - which it did.

The best voucher was a £5 off George baby clothing. It had a "99" code on it so when I was in Tesco the other day at the self serve checkout - I thought "I wonder if it will scan?". It did scan and then I panicked after I had put the voucher in the slot.

Tesco are obviously not going to be able to redeem the money are they? It was an Asda specific voucher - but it scanned no problem because it was a "99" code.

Are Tesco going to come after me? I'm sure they can afford to lose £5 but that's not really the point is it? When they come to empty the voucher machine, they'll realise that it's a voucher they can't redeem.

I wish I'd never done it now but I have and I'm worried. Can anyone give me any advice? Should I go and own up or will they think nothing of it?

Thanks in advance

    Stop feeling guilty :rotfl:you're ok.

I think Tesco with it's 3 billion plus profits can afford to lose the odd fiver.

Don't worry about when they empty the machine, there will be potentially hundreds if not thousands of vouchers going from that store to some big depot somewhere where they'll be processed. There will be no way of knowing that it was you, so stop fretting and consider yourself a fully paid up member of the MOC (money off coupon) club.

Plus thanks for pointing out a glitch that could benefit many others.:T xx

If you are worrying about it then the only way to stop worrying is to go to tesco and apologise. You can just say that you had lots of vouchers in your bag and got your Tesco and Asda ones mixed up, and offer to pay for whatever you bought by accident.
You noticed the wrong voucher had gone missing coz you wanted to use it in Asda but it wasn't there.

Not absoultely strictly true, but confessing you made a mistake, and offering to pay for the goods (which you should have done in the first place) might make you feel a bit better.

  • Dont worry, Tescos openly admit that they accept ASDA vouchers. Trust me, if you lived locally to me you would be well aware of the fact. A new ASDA opened up in Andover recently and to help win back customers our local TESCO is plastering posters and advertisments everywhere stating that they accept them. You have nothing to worry about or apologise for.
  • I too have have huge banners outside my local Tesco store saying "Asda Vouchers Acctepted Here" because a new Asda store has just opened nearby. :T

you should be fine but, and Im not judging anyone here, please dont use other supermarkets specific coupons in tesco unless you have had it confirmed that they take them. If the asda/sainsburys coupons are the "spend and save" type then they do usually take them as a loss leader but my local store has recently stopped accepting them so its best to ask at CS or the till supervisors desk first. The SA on the till will im sure still scan them but its the person sat in the cash office who has to go through them, its them that will have a moan to their manager and before we know it, no coupons allowed.

Yes they scan, yes tesco can take the hit against their massive profits but the store manager in that particular store wont want those type of coupons adding to his waste figures so the net result will be a clampdown on all coupons as we are seeing more and more.

Its done now so dont worry. But we all want tescos lovely coupon policy to carry on so please play by the rules :A

If they don't accept them, they should be clever enough to configure they're till systems to flag it up to the assistant.

I wouldn't worry about it and well done for trying it! :rotfl:
  • You have noting to worry about.

In effect you offered in part payment this vouchers which Tesco accepted.

The Basics of Offer and Acceptance under contract law has been honored. If Tesco were not prepared to accept this vouchers at the time in exchange for these goods thay had the opprotunity at the time to reject it.

Thus Tesco have not any claim on you...... simply its there problem, you have nothing to be guilty about!
