Car Impounded, any advice please?
Last night my car was impounded as I was parked in a disabled bay near college.
This was approximately 9pm. I fully accept that I was in the wrong to park there, though at that time of night with nearly a quarter of a mile of empty disabled spaces behind me I didn’t think It would be too much of an issue, turns out I was very wrong.
I accept that I was parked illegally and would pay any fine due for that (not that I can afford it, the fine I have to pay now is nearly double my monthly income as a student, I'll struggle to eat later this month thanks).
My question is what right is there to impound my vehicle without any notice, leaving me having to report the car stolen, to which a notice was put out to patrols, a massive waste of police time and leaving me stressed out and worried when I came back to the empty space at 10pm. I have things in the car which I need for college and was given no chance to retrieve these. I have no money for public transport at the moment which leaves me unable to get to both college or work and has caused a massive problem for me.
Do they have the right to just take the car (including contents), without issuing any form of notice? I have looked for any policies etc on the NCP and Manchester websites but can find nothing that refers to this.
Having to loan the money from different friends to get it back as it will cost £164 when I can pay it tomorrow.
I just can’t believe they can justify this, certainly a case of the punishment being much more extreme than the crime. I know I was in the wrong in the first place, but feel I am being treated very unfairly because of it.
Can anybody help with any advice?

The notice would of been the parking ticket
Advice - Pay up and get your car back0 -
No ticket at all, unless they placed the ticket on the car then lifted it straight away. All this was done within the space of 1 hour, between 9-10pm, the fact that I was not given any time to act upon the ticket is pretty harsh.
Is there not a certain amount time from the ticket being issued before they can lift the vehicle? Seems it was done very on the sly.0 -
And probably pay promptly otherwise there might be a storage fee to add.
Get it back and then explore the legal ramifications.0 -
Unless of course the car and contents is only worth a couple hundred £ then let them keep it, lol - many advantages to driving cheap cars.
Look on pepipoo.com forums and ask them too.0 -

You're a student and you don't know the difference between loan and borrow.
You broke the rules, you were caught, tough.0 -

I feel your pain!
The same thing happened to me in Manchester! Though a bit different.
I parked outside the printworks and just copied other people parking there. There was no yellow lines or anything and it said loading bay but 9-5.
Came back, and my car was being towed and there was smoke everywhere. I just was stood there open mouthed. I later realised it was also Taxi waiting only. But I don't feel it was labelled well as it was written on the ground, faintly, and only visible if all the cars wern't park over it. (Which of course, they were).
I picked it up the same night and borrowed the £110 or such off a friend. Really !!!!!!ed me up but felt good to have my stolen car back :-(
(also i was only one to get towed out of 4, I felt victimised :-P)0 -

When did Conor ever let the possible facts get in the way of a good savaging.0
