Long Term Savings

Hi,
I would like to start saving long term for my three year old son. I am looking to put his Child Benefit into the savings account as well as any birthday/christmas money etc. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I would like to try to find an ethical account if possible as I bank with the co-operative, and one that I can have access to if I need to buy my son anything that we may not have the ready cash for.....
Thanks in advance for any advice.
