Powergen/Eon exit fees
I have switched from Eon to Southern Electric for both my Gas & Elec. Eon state that my discounts of about 19% won't be applied to my last bill.
This effectively is an exit fee and in my opinion is an attempt to disuade anyone leaving. Has anyone else had discounts removed in this way and any success in having the discounts re-applied?

I wouldn't see it as an exit fee. look at it this way - they have been giving you 19% discounts off of all of your other bills. why should they give you the discount off of your final bill if you are leaving them?
this final bill is just going to be the ACTUAL amount of the bill, rather than a very heavily discounted bill.0 -
I would totally disagree with your comments Energyman. I ahve just spoken to Energywatch who agree this is unfair but they have no power to overule this effective exit fee. They tell me this is a new policy from Eon which was instigated in February 08. I had instigated to move from Eon in january so plan to fight their removal of my discounts.0

Thanks for the info , I am about to leave Eon, as they would not reduce my DD despite having a £156 credit with them !Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam No idea why you removed it as it was something I learnt from this site - bizarre0

Over pay them!
Ring up a month in advance of switching giving them over usage figures then when you switch give them the correct figures and say you must have been mistaken. then ask for your money back and get 19%, (252% APR)Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
I also switched from Eon to Southern Electric Price Fix (thank God) and Eon tried this on with me on the final bill. In my instance the 21% was worth £44, and I got it reinbursed back into my bank account.
Not sure if this info is fully correct, but I think that if you have swopped to their latest online tariff (online 6 ?) then you have agreed to the new terms, but if you are still on one of the previous tariffs (4 or 5 ?) then you have a good chance of getting the discount back.
Good luck.Bad Spellers of the world untie0 -
I have a letter from Eon which is undated, just the month, of when I moved to Southern Elec. They have sent the final bill on the gas but not the elec as they say they have not been given the final reading from Southern Elec. I hasve asked them to prove the T&Cs I was on and to refund the positive balance I had with them. I'll continue the fight when I get the T&C and my final bill.0

I recently switched from EON to another supplier. Yesterday I received a letter saying if I didn't pay the final sum with 7 days they would be taking me to court. The letter was dated 24th April and was received on 30th April so I had 1 day to contact them and pay or else I would get a CCJ against me.
However I never recieved a final bill from EON, this was the only correspondance they have sent me on the matter. I called them at 8 O'clock this morning when their call centre opened, they told me that the reason I had't been sent a final bill was my account had been suspended as the final meter readings had been incorrect, but they still sent me the letter demanding payment or else I would face legal action.
All I can say is good-bye EON I shall never be your customer again.0 -

You wouldn't get a CCJ against you until you had been to court and lost the case.
Based on the information you have given, why do you think you would have lost the case?
In the unlikely event you did lose the case (presuming the claimant did not deny any of your defence), the CCJ would not be recorded if you settled the judgement within 1 month.
Don't allow anyone to worry you with court action if you believe you are right - the chances are it will never end up even going to court."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
