Hello I have the same problem.
I currently live in London and rented all of my life. Now I am moving into a S/O flat with 2 bedrooms. I want to rent the second bedroom asap to help me with my payments and so I can pay of my mortgage as soon as possible.

My problem is: I do not know any furniture accept a bedside table. I am planning to complete on a Thursday and order the furniture (2weeks in advance) to arrive on the Friday. - Do you think this timescale/organisation is reasonable?

I do not drive or own a car so it is difficult for me to pick up second hand furniture. I need the flat furnished as soon as possible so I can rent out the room.

I have got the plans from the builder and my architect friend sketched in all the furniture so it fit.

Are furniture delivery companies reliable? I am just worried about moving out of my flat and having the spend the first few nights on the floor.

    Thanks

Try ebay. Search locally. local ads. If you do not have a car see if you can find a man & a van & do a load of pick ups in one day.

Thanks but I do not even have any place to store any furniture at the moment.

I did allocate a budget of 2k, which I saved up for in particular. I am planning to rent out my spare room for £650 per month as it has an en suite bathroom and is very close to the city. And I guess someone who would spend that money would want some decent furniture.

For myself I am just buying a matress and waiting to find my dream bed ;-)

I just wanted to know if my plan is realistic?

I'd say definately give Freecycle a look. You can get stuff off there to start with and then replace with your own stuff as you go along. If you are in the army could you not give SSAFA a phone call and see if they can help. I have had dealings with them before and they are very good.
    £2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.
  • My lodger likes my cheapo ikea sofa, He is safe in the knowledge that even if he destroys it, it will only cost £120-130.
One guy said that they would not be out of place inside a posh pent house.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

bombata, if you are a tall bloke, buy an ikea bed as the are longer than the standard uk ones. The downside is that you have to buy the ikea matress to and ikea sheets.

If you are renting, clean and good storage. No one wants tatty/worn 'quality' items, it is better to buy cheap and often. if the sofa is uncomfortable like one I bought, then get more cussions.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

Haha.. I am actually a girl and not even 5ft but thanks for the advise ashamed004.gif

I have set myself a budget of £2k. And below are the figures on how much I have allocated for what. Considering the whole flat will be empty. I did not go for the cheapest; because what I do not want to do is have to throw them out within the year.

I found that Beds are cheaper at Argos because they come with the Matresses.

Another question. When you order a Washingmaschine? Will the people who deliver it install it for you?

    Fridge £200 N/A
    Washing Machine £300 Bosch
    Table and Chairs £320 Homebase
    Chest of Drawers £175 Ikea
    My Bed £200 Argos
    Guest Bed £180 Argos
G Bed Side table £20 Ikea
    GChest of Drawers £45 Ikea
    Guest Wardrobe £110 Ikea
    Sofa £285 Ikea
    Kettle £40 Argos

    Delivery Charges
    Argos £4.95
    Ikea £50
    HomeBase £4.95

    Total £1,935

I'd go for the Asda £5 kettle - it does the same as the £40 version.

Don't for get to look in local charity shops too.
