Oh heck, was this a genuine AOL pop up??

Just went to sign out of AOL and a pop up appeared in the bottom right hand corner saying something along the lines of "we need to do an update of your system, failure to do so will result in eventual loss of your internet" so I umm'ed and aah'd as it looked slightly suspect, it had AOL broadband logo on the bottom of it, but it looked scanned in almost, anyway, I went to click it off but it just kind of continued
My other half then went to sign on and it now says in the location box "AOL" whereas before it gave the options of Broadband, Home DSL etc and when he signed on it says "searching for AOL via TCIP/IP...." I don't think it did before. Also he noticed it seemed slower.
I have tried doing a computer check up but that isn't working, and also tried loads of the free online scanners from the list in the sticky, but they don't seem to work on my PC? or stop and come up with an error message. The adaaware scan isn't working either, but I don't know if that's a recent thing or not.:o
Norton is popping up with a strange dial up box, but I couldn't tell you if that is normal or not really as normally I just let it do it's automatic scan and that's that.
Have I got something nasty on my PC?? what are my next steps???? as you may have seen from my Kodak memory card post I am thick when it comes to computers!!!!
Anyone have any ideas for me???

Yes, it's normal my friend. It's to do with AOL switching servers."Gort, klaatu barada nikto"

Any idea why the security scans arn't working????? I read somewhere on here that was a sign that something had been compromised/hacked etc0 -

Not sure why your security isn't working. Try uninstalling and re-installing
your security programs. If you look in your start menu, go to 'connect to'
and you should see 'dialBB', you need to click on that and then start your
AOL software, that should get you back online.
Good luck."Gort, klaatu barada nikto"
