Nationwide Flex account Overdraft charges

Options
Hello,

I have a Nationwide Flex current account, i have no overdraft facility agreed, so if or when i went into the red, i would stand to lose £20.00, as a punishment for going overdrawn. My question relates to a scenario, the above information is new to me, i only found out today. Could someone tell me if you are charged for going overdrawn for 10 minutes in the same day obviously as it was a mistake by the till woman, but could cost you £20.00.

So you have £50.00 in your Flex account, no agreed overdraft facility in place, you pay a bill which is £80.00, so go £30.00 overdrawn, you realise the lady has paid the bill out of the wrong card (account), as you gave her both cards to the two Flex accounts you have. You realise the mistake, so ten minutes later, she takes £40.00 out of you second Flex account where you plenty of credit (cash), she then puts this £40.00 in your first Flex account, so you are in credit again, so now not overdrawn. You were overdrawn for ten minutes only.

Will you get charged for this mistake?

  • I had a couple of instances where my bank statement shows me going overdrawn at some stage during the day, but ending up in credit, and I've never been charged for it, so I'm pretty sure they go on the end-of-day balance.

Was that the Nationwide Flex account? Thanks for the reply, i am hoping they go on the close of play balance, otherwise i will let you all know the outcome of my complaint to customer services.
  • Sorry, I should have made clear it was a Nationwide flex account.

I've had a Nationwide flex account for quite a few years and have always found them a very fair bank to deal with.
I once accidently used my Nationwide visa/delta instead of my Nationwide visa, so I overdrew for a couple of days before I realised my mistake, they were very understanding and instantly refunded the charge, they also put a £50 Authorised overdraft Limit on the account in case of future mistakes, they have now increased it to £200.

Its done over a 24 hour period so if you look in the morning and find a debit has put you overdrawn (or over your limit if you dont have an overdraft), if you can transfer money in so that the account has a positive balance (or you are back within your OD limit) by close of business on the same day then you will not be charged.

:T Someone else confirming that if a cheque is showing as "being processed" and funds are transferred from Nationwide e-saver instantly then no charges are incurred. :T
  • Thanks for the help, and again Mssr BLF!
