Barclays £30 charge after they brought standing order forward

I'm fuming, a couple of months ago I set up a standing order from my barclays current account to transfer the majority of my wages into my joint account which should transfer on my payday, (same day everymonth)
this month, barclays withdrew the money 3 days early, leaving my current account over £1000 past my overdraft. They charged me £30 for going over but refunded it the same day. They also sent a letter to advise me what has happened but threatened if it happens again twice in the next year they'll charge me.
I checked the online banking and my standing order was set up for 15th of every month, more than a week before what I had originally set it up as.
I don't know what to do, obviously i'm not out of pocket, but its the prinicple of getting this threat letter, and also the potential of losing one of my 3 strikes (not that i go overdrawn)
It seems that some glitch has occured which brought my standing order forward by a week.
I'm going to complain to them in writing, but is there any way of finding out how the standing order was changed, also would it be worth asking for some sort of compensation for this.

If you instruct your bank to pay a standing order on the 15th of the month, that is what they should do. They cannot decide to pay it early, although it can be paid late if the 15th is not a banking day.
I would complain using the bank's complaints procedure and investigate reporting the bank to the banking ombudsman. As for the "three strikes" scheme operated by your bank, why not operate your own "three strikes" scheme? If they goof one more time, you will transfer your account to another bank.0 -

Write to the Bank as you suggested, give them the details in a calm, rational manner (don't use over-emotive language, this is unlikely to get you very far) and await their response.
As regards compensation - WHY????????? You have not lost anythingGwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -
I went into NatWest to amend the payment amount of a DD that I have set up to go out of my account on the last working day of the month. It's lucky that I did this today as they were due to take the DD on 25th of this month - 5 days before due. I deliberately set it up for last working day to accont of weekend nmonth ends, but that isn't even the case this month. Luckily the DD comes out of a savings account so there is always money to cover it.
I'm going to check back statements to see how many times this has happened and possibly make a complaint.
I think the answer is to audit your DD details on a regular basis to ensure that your instructions are being carried out.
p.s. No, I won't be asking for compensation, but I will be asking for an explanation and an apology!I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -
Have things changed recently?
I always thought direct debits were requested by the beneficiaries - not paid by the banks

compensation - yay get millions
Why don't you call them up and point out the fault, if it's an easy fault to see like it sounds to be they will most likely check the standing order and reverse the charge - as for compensation, have you suffered because of this (other than getting your knickers in a twist)?0
