  • Don't do it is my only advice.

By all means play with pretend money but if you are anything less than an expert you will lose any real money!

Probably better asking on the Motley Fool - Options, CFDs & Spread Bet board.

Have to agree that you need to know what you're doing, though - IM (non expert ) O, it's closer to gambling than investing.

  • I haven't traded options, but have experience in underlying shares, and commodities - the latter via unit trusts, OEICs and ETC/ETFs, over the past three years.

The usual mode for highly-geared trading or access to short-selling would be spread betting (no tax or interest, it's all in the wider spread) or CFDs. Less complicated than options/covered warrants. You would have to sign a special disclaimer for these sort of instruments because of the leverage involved - that is, you can lose everything, and then still have people chasing you for more, unless you use guaranteed stoplosses (which adds even more cost!)

No advice intended, but I would be more inclined to investigate normal stocks before trying derivatives, especially in this market!

Yes. I used to trade OTC Currency Options.

Without the knowledge, understanding and a heck of a lot of expensive and sophisticated software you will be eaten alive !!!!

The other option is spread-betting: tax free but risky:eek:
