Does the OP's ex have a mortgage? She can find out but won't know how much it is. What are his circumstances that you know of?

no doesnt have a mortgage but lives with partner, on the maintenance assessment form he is claiming that he has no housing costs or travel to work costs or any income from capital. Think I will find it difficult proving an inconsistent lifestyle as smoking, drinking and gambling cant really be assesed. Anyway I have contacted a solicitor but dont hold much hope, thanks for all you replies,

I am glad 2525 has notified the Inland Revenue ( or whatever they call themselves now) because they have much more powers than the feeble CSA to hurt where it really hurts - being a man, I know where that is!

Its not the CSA's job to investigate defrauding the inland revenue (or the benefits system for that matter)! The CSA can only work with the info they're given from the NRP, their employer and/or the inland revenue.

From the amount of self employed NRP's working for £100 a week, there needs to be something done! It seems so easy for the self employed to fiddle the figures!

Has anyone had any success after reporting someone to the inland rev?

Hiya N71 ... long time, no see! I wasn't suggesting that the CSA should be investigating HMR&C matters. I was just pointing out that a PWC could alert HMR&C if they thought that they were earning a lot more than they were telling. HMR&C have much greater powers than any other Agency to investigate, and their findings could be passed on to the CSA at the PWC's request.

As for SE NRP's ... or SE PWC's for that matter ... it is one of the tricks of the trade, avoiding paying tax, and they have been at it since taxation was introduced, so those skills have been well honed, and the CSA are easy meat.

I would have thought the Government would have sorted this out by now! instead us PAYE people have to subsidise the selfemployed as they certainly don't pay the CORRECT amount of tax based upon what they REALLY earn. If this was sorted, then I recon that the basic rate of tax could drop to about 18%

Hello there! I know what you meant - but I don't think imho that many PWC's bother with alerting he HMRC!

A lot of people seem to think that its the CSA's job to invesitgate various frauds, or that CSA, HMRC and BA are all in one big office and discussing cases between ourselves!!! If only!!!

Judging by today's u-turn, the government are having great difficulties in sorting themselves out, let alone SE and their SELF assessment forms.

Damn, computer!!! It look that long for the dimwit MPs to realise the impact it would have on the non-tax credit qualifying people. Golden Brown is as useless as a chocolate teapot! Chickens coming home to roost at the moment methinks.
