Can I claim fuel expenses?

Hiya everyone, Im studying a teaching degree at university. As part of this I travel alot to different schools to teach. My uni does not offer to cover travel expenses, although many others do. I think this is a bit unfair, but I have heard from somewhere that I can claim by fuel costs from somewhere else. Does anyone have any information about this? As its costing me quite alot now.

TIA Vicky x

which university are you at? i don't know of a general uk-wide fund, but there may be specific funds you can apply to where you are that people know about.

And when you're a teacher and get expenses paid to supervise students on visits etc. will you expect the pupils to also be reinbursed?

I am not saying that, why can I never ask a simple question on this forum without getting my head bitten off. The other universities I had interviews at did offer to cover travel expenses, but the one I am at doesnt. All I want to know is if there is anyone out there who knows of someone I could ask, as my mom was told if i cant claim it from the university I could from somewhere else.

i dont think there is to be honest. Im in same situation although we do get our costs refunded.

I would think since it was clear from the start that unfortunately you will have to cover it yourself. At lease you knew from the start so you could take it into you budgeting etc!

I didn't mean to snap but the fact that the university pays its employees expenses to travel on business has nothing to do with whether the students are reimbursed .As the last poster said, at least you knew that travel wasn't reimbursed when you started your course. Get your mum to ask the person who told her about claiming, where you can claim from.

Have you tried enquiring of the Local Education Authorities of the schools in which you have to teach? Or even asking the Head Teacher while you're doing your teaching practice? He/She may have been asked this question before by other impoverished students and be able to point you in the right direction (if there is one).
