Tescos triumph!

Hi everyone,

I jsut wanted to share my tescos triumph with you! :D :j

I had my first monthly shop delivered last night (menu planning, offers etc got the bill right down) but the delivery driver dinted my living room door frame as he was carrying the crates into the kitchen. He was apologetic and polite, but we were a bit annoyed, especially as the house was only decorated last summer.

Anyway, before i had my lightbulb moment and discovered MSE I probably wouldn't have done anything about it, but I decided to phone tescos and see what could be done. After speaking to the v nice and helpful customer services centre and a bit of chasing around after the manager that i needed, i managed to negotiate a £20 refund on the shopping! :D

Firstly he offered to refund the delivery charge, but i told him I had a code for free delivery anyway. Then he offered £10 and I explained that it would cost more than that for the materials to repair the door frame (we have all the stuff in the cellar, but that's not really the point). He asked what was reasonable, I said £20 and he agreed.

Woo hoo!! :T

I'm very proud of myself for that bit of negotiating. While he didn't seem bothered about the damage, fixing the frame will be a pain in the a**e for [STRIKE]us[/STRIKE] OH.

Sorry if i've gone on a bit, its just my first time of discussing / complaining about poor service and negotiating a good result.

Ours don't normally bring the shopping in, I unpack it on the doorstep - I guess that is in case they cause damage, those crates are quite wide.

Well done on your discount - bet you'll be picking your shopping up off the doorstep next time though :D

Well done for negotiating a fair deal! Too often we let things go.

Years ago I ripped my blouse when a button got snagged on the side of the checkout at Sainsbury's. As the blouse was less than a month old and the rip was going to be hard to mend and impossible to hide I asked for the supervisor. OH thought I was mad!
It took 20 minutes of polite but firm discussion, but they paid for a replacement.
The checkouts still have a seam in the metal side near the cashier, so it must happen often.

  • well done i had to do something similar about 2 years ago with a fish delivery i had ruined my new porch flooring had only been down a month but i got the £40 ( after a fight) that the fish would of cost me to replace the floor which was about right give or take.

I've moved this to the 5 star service board as this isn't really an old style issue.

    Well done!
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

Yes i to dont have the driver come into the house, whilst we both do the first crate,he is unloading the others, puts them just inside my door, and the kids love going bk and forwards for the shopping anyway.i usually have bout 10 crates,so dont imagine he'd be too pleased hogging them all the way to the kitchen.,dont think i'd like to hang around waiting for him to get to the kitchen come to think of it,with that many to do,by the time he got to the last lot poor bloke would be knackered.lol.
  • I have only had tescos deliver my shopping once a while ago. I did it because I had a £10 off code and I was pregnant. I ordered all my heavy shopping that I could no longer manage in the shop - as they advertise that they take your shopping to your door, fridge door. Well, when they turned up he dumped it on the doorstep and told me to start unpacking !? (I was heavily, obviously pregnant) Luckly my oh was in so I called him to lift the heavy stuff. ....... now I would have asked the delivery bloke to bring it in ..... but ....urgh, he smelt of wee wee!!!??? Yuck!! Put me off my shopping and I didn't want him in my house!!?? I maybe should have rang them up after that experience but didn't. I have since moved so I might try them again??:o
