Looking at the above messages I feel a bit better only because I thought I'd been really stupid and misunderstood the overdraft situation, but now I see I was also victim of them being 'economical with the truth' as they never told me either that I had to be in credit for two days a month until the accounts were open. Grrrrrr.

I'm switching my account to Alliance and Leicester at the moment.

I've got the money to guarantee that my account will be in credit at the moment, until I've shown them what they want to see so they'll match my overdraft, but then I'd like to spend it on a car.

If I fail to put my account in credit each month will they eventually come after me and try and cancel my overdraft?
  • I printed out my old statements to prove I was in credit for 2 days a month, faxed them over to A&L and they matched my current overdraft no problem. Admittedly, they were quiet about the fact I would have to do this until right at the last minute, but once I knew what I had to do they were okay.

They took a LONG time to switch over my direct debits etc, so I suggest anyone switching does it just after they've got paid with money to spare in both accounts.

They haven't tried this on me yet. I've got a 4k overdraft with them and a salary of 1k a month going in (and straight back out again, taking as much advantage of 0% OD as I can). I think the original overdraft was offered for 12 months, so I doubt it will be reduced before then. Almost certainly the OD will be reduced to about 1k after the 12 months, but I'll be done with the account then...

A&L is the worst bank to be with when you have a problem. would you like to wait until there is one, cause honestly, if there is one, you would be on the telephone about 2 hours every day for a week until the query is resolved. A&L sucks big time.

Have posted elsewhere, but basically what can I do?

A & L have opened the 2 accs, given me £450 OD and taken over my SO & DD.
They wont match the OD limit on NatWest acc because I`m not in credit for 2 days per month - were was that on the info???

How can I quickley & smoothly get it all back in to shape?
And more inportantly will the NatWest take me back?!? I`ve been unfaithful!

A & L customer service staff have been ok, but that little snippet of info regarding the 2 days was NEVER mentioned until last letter & last but one phone call.

Have decided to go `cap in hand` to Natwest & beg forgiveness for being unfaithful!

Will take ALL paperwork & see what they suggest.
Meanwhile, looks like cable didn`t get paid during swap, so I owe 2 months money at this point - £75! GREAT!

Please great & good bank manager, help me to get this sorted QUICKLY!

Got to get it sorted today, one way or other, as am back to not sleeping very well with the worry & being ill.....
