wireless router problem

I have a Netgear router.
Got it all set up ok.
However, although my PC will connect quite happily at 11 mps, I cannot get the outside world working. Internet Explorer and email won't work at all.
Any help with settings gratefully received.

What ISP do you use? It sounds like your router isn't distributing the internet properly. Go onto your router config page, should tell you how to do it in user manual. Is the internet working on any machine? Or just not working on the wireless one?0

Make sure all username and settings are correct. If you are using a wireless ADSL modem try match your settings (Except for DNS) to this:

Another thing to make sure is that windows firewall is turned off! This inteferes with the internet from a router. Good luck.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

I am using Tiscali, via an ethernet modem, running on a Mac.The router works on the Mac, either hard wired, or wirelessly.
The computer I want to use wirelessly is a PC, running XP pro SP2.This is the one which I cannot connect to the internet on.
I'll try those settings, MercilessKiller, thanks. I am at work, right now, so will try later.Windows firewall is off, btw.

Ok, I have been thinking about this over dinner, check the following:
1) That you actually are connected to your OWN network and not another wireless network in your area. Ping your computer upstairs, (start - run - cmd) then ping ipaddress. This should be able to ping the machine upstairs.
2) Make sure Internet connection sharing is DISABLED on all other machines on your LAN
3) You are probably using DHCP to assign IP's check that this is correctly setup in tcp/ip properties.
4) Check that you have entered your wireless encryption key correctly, if necessary remove encryption totally for a few minutes just to test that this is not the problem
If you have connectivity to the PC upstairs, then the problem is almost definitely in the way you have configured wireless clients on your router, or you have Internet connection sharing setup somewhere which is conflicting with the router.
5) Ensure the internet is going into the right ethernet port at the back, it should be clearly named if not check your user manual.
6) Ensure that you haven't got a proxy setup in internet explorer (tools-internet options-connections-lan settings) these should be at automatically detect settings
Hope some of this helps0 -

Sounds 100% like windows firewall is enabled.
Unless u allow all outgoing traffic on HTTP and HTTPS services to "ANY IP ADDRESS" Then windows firewall blocks everything, but the first method is still dangerous.
Simply go home, disbaled windows firewall, and should all work fineIgnore the other things I said if its working on your mac

None of this has worked.
I am now going to install the modem and router onto the PC, and use the Mac as the wireless one.
If that doesn't work, then I am stumped!Debt free!!!!!!!!!! :j0
