Hard wiring smoke alarms

Hi there just a quick question....

I'm needing to get my house checked by the Care Commision to become a registered childminder and one of the things you need to do is have hard wired alarms. Obviously an electrician will do this for me but what I want to know is how they do it...is it a right messy job...do you have alot of re decoration to do afterwards. My walls and floor are concrete if that helps...apart from upstairs where as far as I know its 'normal' walls and flooring:o

cheers!:D

They can run it plastic conduit along walls and ceilings, which you can paint to match existing colours, so shouldn't be too much mess.

  • Aico do smoke alarm bases (Ei 168) that fit their Ei 141 smoke detectors

The bases comply and can be hard wired to any circuit (fused appropriately) and are inter linkable using the radio base (which has a lithium rechargable battery)

If it is for the care commision you may require a BS 5839-6 certificate
There is a link below to the SELECT site where you can put in your post code and it gives details of companies that are able to do this type of work

had this done over a year ago in S London for a btl hmo. 3 in bedrooms, 2 in hallway, 1 in lounge and a heat sensors in the kitchen. One quote was £2300 and the other was £526 inc vat.

they were mains hard wired, battery backed up sensors on their own fuse.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

If you have a Burglar Alarm there are add on smoke and heat detectors for that.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Phone your local fire brigade, they'll give you the best advice. Often they fit alams for free.

I very much doubt that they will fit or provide hard wired ones for free. It would be a battery one.

Why not install radio linked smoke detection, as long as it approved to BS5839 then you will be fine.

    I have already said-
