Gas heater

Hi
I have a gas heater affixed to the chimney breast in my dining room. The gas supply emerges through the floorboards about 10 inches to the side of the appliance and then connects into the side of the heater, just beneath the dial. I want to have this monstrosity removed but want to know about disconnecting the supply safely.
1. Am I correct in assuming I would require a Corgi registered engineer?
2. What would be involved?
3. What approx cost am I looking at?
Any help appreciated

It cost me £50 last year to have a similar pipe removed. The gas fire had already been disconnected and removed leaving a piece of 'live' gas pipe sticking out of the wood floor.
He removed the long pipe back to the bigger pipe that ran outside the property and then capped it.
Floorboards were already up . I paid him cash. No receipt but he was a Corgi man, the same bloke who does regular servicing to the boiler. Him and a young leaner, here about an hour.0 -
By law, if you tamper with gas and ain't qualified (Corgi), you are can face up to a 2 year prison sentence. For the sake of £50, it really ain't worth it.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
