Psychology Experiments for students.

Hi All,
I am a student and I have been doing psychology experiments for fellow students at my uni since the beginning of the term. From this I have recieved just over £100 this year.
Most of the experiments at my uni are for native english speakers however there are other specialist test for people of, for example, asian origin.
If you are a student I would 100% recommend this, go and have a look in the psychology department at the notice boards and sign up for any email subscriptions you can.
This is even better if you live on or near campus as many only take 30mins and can be done during breaks between classes!
Let me know how you all get on!

ps...i see no reason why non-students couldn't contact the psychology dept at their local uni and ask if they need participants to take part in experiments.
Good luck!

i'm a psychology student, and I have to participate in fellow students' experiments too, but we only get "credits" which are compulsory and count towards our degree marks (in 1st year we had to get 10 credits worth 10% of a module, and in 2nd year we have to get 20 credits, still only worth 10% of a module!). i wish we got money!!
this is good advice though, i'd imagine you can earn quite a bit doing it if they do pay. 0 -
our psychology students get credits too, although i think once they have got all the credits they need they can start earning money from them!
luckily im not a psych student! lol!SPC Member #1654

i know that feeling well! i'd recommend everyone doing this really reads information sheets and consent forms closely. make sure you really know what they're asking you to do and ask questions if you want. ethically, you should always have the right to withdraw at any time as well! most will be harmless tests, but if there is going to be something you're uncomfortable with, better to know before it actually happens! :happyhear0 -

well...ive not done anything like that!
i recently did one where i had to wear an EEG cap and blink at images on a screen...and i had one where i spent 5 hours in total watching david attenborough films on mute! and doing maths questions!
some of them are quite funny really...some are totally boring though!SPC Member #1654

Are you sure it was shocks and not magnetic stimulation?
I used to do TMS on people but I only used other students, not general public. I had it done to me more times then I can count as well. It can be very nasty sometimes, but again, I wouldn't expect them to use the general public for that, certainly when I did really unpleasant ones it was only other graduate students and staff doing it.
Every department I've worked in had a directory of willing volunteers. People just phone up and put their name on it, and then get invited in when there's an experiment on. Sometimes we organised experiment days were lots of people with small experiments would get a batch of people in to do a whole load in one day. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -

yeh you are correct it was TMS, but to me it's all the same, it feels like a shock and it makes me twitch  ..it had no lasting effects as far as I know, was quite safe, and paid pretty well (£15 per hour) did it three times. I'd recommend it if you don't mind being immensely bored and annoyed for an hour0
