In a word, no.
The OP will be claiming JSA as a single person, and will not be entitled to any assistance to go and see his/ her children.
The other person may be able to claim tax credits (if they are not already), but this would depend on their income. For information on the child support issue, there is a child support board where you should get a more informed answer xGone ... or have I?0 -
Hi
wondered if you good folk could help......
a friend of mine split from their other half, the other half has taken the children to the other end of the country, 5 hours away,
Friend is claiming JSA at moment due to setting up business and having no income at the moment, staying rent free with friends, travelling 10 hour round trip every other friday and return journey every other sunday to see their children.
has no car and is relying on friends to let them borrow car to get to see the children etc.
Anyway my questions are:
Are they entitled to claim any other benefits (guess they can't claim HB as living rent free with friends)
How does this leave their other half who has the children for the majority of the time and is earning (how can they claim money for the children as obviously they can't get money out of my friend as they are not earning at present)
Are there any grants/benefits to assist them with seeing their children for some of the weekends?
any advise/help most gratefully received
x
I'm a bit confused as to who you're referring to as you keep saying they and their. Has your friend got a new partner so that you're talking about 2 people?0 -

There might be a chance of a Community Care Grant, it seems the person on JSA could claim if a court case is pending but it's worth putting in an application in any case as there's nothing to lose.
More details on the iris-review website where they say:
.Someone needs to travel within the UK.
Travel costs may be met if they qualify under any of the above conditions. In addition to these a grant may be awarded for travelling expenses, within the United Kingdom, to:
Visit someone who is ill;
Attend a relative's funeral;
Ease a domestic crisis;
Visit a child who is with the other parent pending a court decision; or
Move to suitable accommodation.
The non resident parent if on JSA will be expected to pay the minimum amount of CSA which I think is about £7. They could possibly claim a Community Care Grant when they find somewhere to live too.Torgwen..........
