in Credit cards
hi all hope someone can help. last month i paid off a credit card and asked for the account to be closed. I recieved my credit report today and it is still on there (updated up to april for this account). do i have to request this account to be taken off or should it say has been closed on my c.r? The account is recorded at payment recieved on time but i would like it removed so that lenders can see i have less "credit" avaliable. any advice would be appreciated.

Contact the company concerned. Ask them to close the account and update the credit reference agencies.0

It will stay on your credit report and be marked as 'settled'. I believe it will stay on there for 6 years?0

As above, will stay for 6 years, but it can take up to 3 months for your record to be updated.0

I've just done the same with 2 accounts-one barclays current account and one RBS credit card-the barclays one now shows as settled and the RBS one is still there as active but dont worry. It will as everyone else says-stay on your file for 6yrs :-( nothing to worry about though.Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!

It depends on how close they are to the monthly update date as to whether they mark the card as settled at the first (zero balance) update.
I believe they require a period of inactivity (just in case there are any pending transactions in the system) before formally notifying the CRA of the settled status.
In practice, it can take up to 8 weeks (or, in the case of HBOS, 4 months!!) for a settled status to appear.0
