As from June 30, 2008, Microsoft is disabling the DAV protocol and you will no longer be able to access your Hotmail Inbox via Outlook Express, even if you have a Premium account. If this is the only reason you pay for the Premium account, look at cancelling your subscription.

You can still use Outlook with a connector or Microsoft are trying to encourage you to use Windows Live Mail software.

or switch to gmail which still works with outlook
  • If you have Outlook 2003 or 2007 then download and install this which will enable you to manage your Live account through Outlook.

Or, alternativly, download the replacement for Outlook Express from Microsoft; Windows Live Mail and continue to manage your Live account locally.

HELP!!! I have been happy with hotmail for ten years, it just works. I know very little about email programs, I just use outlook express that came with xp and i am happy. What do I do? I can't really just switch emails as a lot of people know that address. Why to Microsoft have to mess around with things, what I have works and has worked. Grrrrr.

Download Windows Live Mail from the link in my post above and you can continue in a similar fashion as you have been.

Microsoft are removing the protocol that hotmail runs on that is outdated and replacing it with the current revision, that's why the change is coming about.

Outlook Express is a relic of a bygone era now, so it's time they discontinued support for it.

I was also happy with Outlook Express - will I still be able to access my Lycos and Lineone emails through Windows Live Mail.

(I do have Outlook on my machine but my husband uses that and I like to keep things separate.

Well the good news is that it does handle non-Hotmail accounts - as well as multiple Hotmail accounts.

Even more impressive my blueyonder & 2 Yahoo accounts appear in separate folders - and it handles multiple Hotmail accounts

The only disadvantage so far is that the window is in Tellytubby colours
